Echocardiogram technicians, or echocardiographers, are important for diagnosing and managing heart issues. They use ultrasound equipment to create detailed images of the heart, helping doctors evaluate heart health. This safe procedure involves placing sensors on the patient’s chest to capture live images, which are used to find problems like valve issues, congenital heart defects, and cardiomyopathy. These technicians need a good grasp of heart structure and how it works, as well as the skills to operate imaging machines. Their knowledge is vital for delivering accurate diagnoses and helping develop treatment plans for patients with heart diseases.

The Echocardiogram course at the Allied Health Center offers comprehensive training for healthcare professionals seeking to specialize in cardiac ultrasound.

Prerequisites

Participants should have a background in basic anatomy and physiology. Prior work experience or a certification in cardiac diagnostics or EKG is required.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate in Echocardiography, allowing the student to sit for the CCI Registered Cardiac Sonographer(RCS) exam, pathway 5.

    • Understand the fundamentals of echocardiography, including the physics of sound and ultrasound principles.

    • Learn to perform and interpret standard echocardiographic views, including 2D, Doppler, and color flow imaging.

    • Gain proficiency in using echocardiographic equipment and software.

    • Acquire knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and common cardiac diseases.

    • Develop skills to recognize normal and abnormal echocardiography findings and their clinical implications.

    • Duration: 52 weeks*

    • Format: Combination of lectures, hands-on lab sessions, and clinical practicum.

    • Evaluation: Written exams, practical assessments, and a final project focusing on case studies.

    *800 clinical hours is required to sit for the board exam. Students have 6 months after graduation to complete these hours.
